12:21 a.m. Taking the long view, here. Trying to keep a cheerful demeanor. Succeeding only some of the time.

I'm trying to learn a thing or two from the new administration fixin' to take over Washington. Low expectations. Keep 'em low 'n slow and you won't have so far to go. Low.

Amazingly, you can even get depressed about Christmas even if you didn't have big hopes or plans that were dashed. I really maybe should have sorta kinda shoulda tried a little harder, perhaps.

Now I know it's foolhardy to compare yourself to anybody else. Nobody else currently taking up space on this globe today has anything remotely comparable to your experiences, so how can you measure yourself against the guy standing beside you?

And yet, I can't help it.

Yes I can. I can help it. My mother always says that "can't" means "won't" and it used to drive me nuts when I was a whiny little kid complaining. Like many of those maddening catch phrases that mothers love to use, that one actually has some truth in it.

I've been wallowing a little bit. Watching the folks on the TV local news. You know the day-after story ... people buying buying buying ... all over again. This time, it's personal. Definitely must remember to turn off the TV.

In other news, there's the possibility that wasabi cures tooth decay. Look for wasabi toothpaste in the near future. I, personally, can't wait. In fact, our whole town of Venice has been on a Wasabi watch, ever since an abandoned grocery store suddenly posted a sign announcing: Coming soon! The Wasabi Noodle House.

We just recently acquired our own local Chinese restaurant, and now this! Noodles! Wasabi! All under one roof. Within walking distance. Could life get any better? I think not. We still could use an inexpensive Italian boite, of course, but all in good time.

What else in on the horizon? The oranges should start to sweeten up any week now. What else? I have a new Ffrench family calendar to install in just a few more days -- and the new year looks very promising. Very. I've merely to rise up and greet it, give it a high five.

(to be continued ... )
