10:29 p.m. I was out and about tonight, talking to a few people over drinks in a darkened bar, and every woman I talked to wanted to talk about the rape that was part of The Sopranos last night. It was a vivid, painful scene and it's made a lot of people mad, scared, uneasy.

One woman described how she's taken years and years of jujitsu, and a special rape protection form of it, at that. "I could kill any many in this bar here. Easily," she said. A simple crushed windpipe, and that's that.

Meanwhile, I have a SETI at home screen saver and I'm working on my second 500-hour set of data and darn if I don't see a pattern here. Now, since it's a screen saver, I can't get a screen grab of it and it's only one of the set of calculations that they're running, but it looks something like this:

..............|..............|

and for the life it me, it looks like an intelligent pattern. I didn't see anything like this the last time and so now I've got my camera on the desk at all times, ready to take the photo the next time I see it. It may be nothing, but then again ... you never know.

Readiness is the key. That's also the key to the rape protection program, as described by the alert man-killer who was sipping her Reisling so sweetly.

Aliens may walk among us, but they have to learn how to respect our personal boundaries, or kablooie. That's the moral.

Early to bed tonight ...

Early to write tomorrow.
