1:45 a.m. Well, happy happy New Year! To everyone who stops by to read these pages, let me tell you -- you've certainly made the past year a happy one for me ...

Funny thing happened on the way to 2001, just a few moments ago ... I came in here to post a quick end-of-the-year greeting and found my computer in a sorry state, indeed.

To make a long harrowing troubleshooting session seem shorter than it actually was, let me tell you that if someone sends a certain kind of email, Microsoft Outlook Express will choke on it.

This happened once before -- if someone leans on a key and types, say -- arghhhh -- but lets the letters trail all the way out along the line, with no spaces inbetween, the program will try to bring in, but will just quit. It's as if the mail program got a bone caught sideways in its narrow throat, and nothing will dislodge it ...

... except -- the solution I've found is to fire up one of my old Netscape Communicators and use that mail program to bring in the troublesome email and sure enough, that's what happened again tonight ...

So, that's what I was doing when the real century turned. Giving the Heimlich to a mail program. See you next year ...

Happy New Year!
