(blooming)

11:39 p.m. The photo of the puppies yesterday did indeed fill me with joy, and so here is another one whose sole purpose is to just stand there and look pretty. A model bloom.

Exquisite beauty, bursting. Pollen is everywhere, all over the petals like a precious spice.

These lilies are part of a huge display in the more expensive market, which we've been studiously avoiding these days. It's too easy to grab some sushi and not really look at the prices, and before you know it -- another hundred dollars is lost forever.

Today we were there for one reason only: the free lamb bones that they give out for the seder celebration. That, plus a couple oranges. Gotta have oranges. Must have juice. Need citrus.

Speaking of fruit (and I have to tell you that I've been gone between that last sentence and this one -- out to the kitchen to get one of those oranges, oddly enough -- and I came back in and hit the first two letters of the word S-p when suddenly the most incredible, big spider, the size of a quarter, I swear, skidded out from under the keyboard where he must have been hiding, or sleeping, and he flew across the desk surface and out and behind the space between the modem and the machines, and whoa what a rush ...

... and to think: how long has he been there, under the keyboard while I was sitting here ... taking my time, carefully and methodically selecting just. the. right. word ... there's always a sub-context, you know?

So, that gave me the creeps.

And the creeps literally crawls up the back of your neck, right up through your hairline ... and ...

where was I?

Haroseth. I have the ingredients and I'm going to make some for tomorrow, nice and fresh. It's not too difficult: chopped up apple, nuts, a splash of red wine, and some secret ingredients I'm going to think up on the spot -- probably cinnamon and maybe a touch of honey. It's supposed to represent the mortar that was used for the pyramids, so we're improvising here. I don't think they used raisins, for example, but I plan to.

Anyway, a recipe tomorrow, maybe. We'll see. Me -- I just want to vacate this desk and keyboard for a few minutes. Let things settle down a bit.

Shhhhh. I hope it didn't lay eggs.
